the ways of harmony

Welcome,

My name is Josh Williams- I’m a traditionally-trained herbalist, spiritual botanist, and plant spirit worker. I have been journeying with the plant spirits for over 20 years; exploring and experiencing their magic, medicine, and wisdom.

Here, I’ll share with you more about how I work with the plants, how they’ve taught and initiated me into their ways, and how you can connect to them more deeply. The blessings of our green allies are all about harmony- a word that shares its linguistic roots with hearth, art, and heart.

Upcoming herbal workshops and herb school news, virtual classes, and handcrafted remedies from my apothecary to your heart & hands can also be found on these pages.

If you have any questions or want to connect, please reach out!

With green blessings of peace + plenty,
Josh

The plants are arcane spirits with deep wisdom, awareness, and power. By connecting to them in medicine, magic, ritual, and initiation, we connect to their roots and branches to gather in the energies we need to cultivate harmony.

As a traditionally-trained clinical herbalist, I work with clients to explore the best plant allies, remedies, and protocols that meet them where they are and support their wellness goals- but that’s just the beginning. My work with herbal medicine is rooted in energetics; the unique spirit of each person, the ways they manifest disharmony, and the spirits of the plants that are best suited to help heal. From there, I guide clients into powerful work with the green allies that helps to attune, align, and connect.

While we mostly think of working with plants and herbs in the form of remedies: tinctures, capsules, teas, and the like- this is not the only nor the oldest way of connecting with green medicine. As you and I journey the verdant paths of healing and harmony together, we’ll explore whole array of modalities and formats, all informed by the plants, to help nourish the process.

Gentle energy work, facilitated dosing, guided journeywork, body talk, biofeedback, rituals, and other offerings are made where inspired by the plants to help them move into every part of your life- from roots to fruits.

Why Work With an Herbalist?

If you’re reading this, you’re on the internet and you have access to an endless array of information on working with herbs right at your fingertips. So, why should you work with an herbalist in Salt Lake City, Utah rather than just looking up which herbs are good for what you’re working on? Here are a few reasons I think are pretty important…

  • Most information online is not verified as accurate by any specific person or board. Anyone can post anything- and when it comes to herbalism, much of what you read is hearsay or concepts about herbs that are applied broadly or without crucial context to make them more effective.

  • General information is great for learning general things- but when it comes to your wellness, it’s all about you! Working with an expert and professional herbalist ensures that rather than looking up the herbs that are ‘good for’ a specific issue, you’ll be connected with the herbs that are aligned to your unique constitution, goals, narratives, and choices.

  • There is no real nuance with general herbal information online. What works for one person’s temperament and unique expression of an illness may not be righto for you- and could even exacerbate the issue!

  • A qualified herbalist has years of study including supervised clinical practicum alongside personal experience serving their communities. This all shows up for you during your consultation so that rather than having to try many formulas, remedies, or herbs which may not be the right fit for you, you can connect more directly to the right ones.

  • Professional herbalists are trained to see, explore, and assess patterns which are sometimes hard to see on our own. Having someone else explore with you can be a powerful way to get new perspective and to see how the plants can work with the pattern you’re experiencing.

  • A qualified herbalist is able to write formulas and remedies as well as compound herbal medicines for each client they work with as part of the consultation. Formulation is both an art and a science, and brings together a group of herbs that work harmoniously to support your goals. Rather than having to buy pre-made formulas for the store that have been written to serve the average consumer, your formulas as written for you and are just for you.

  • In the way I work with herbs, relationship is key. Taking your herbal journey with someone who is in deep personal connection to the plants and the medicine ways delivers a different kind of potential to your work with the plants- a spirit and a connection that overflows beyond the physical and moves into every part of your being and path.

  • As questions arise, your herbalist can help answer them and give you guidance based on experience and expertise so you can confidently work with herbal medicine.
